what i’ve read

I promised my self at the beginning of the year that I wanted to read more in 2018. So far its going well and I am really enjoying the books have picked out so far. I have a huge pile to get through but I thought I would share with you what I have managed to complete over the summer. There is a bit of a mix in this round up, a few psychological thrillers and a chick-lit. One book I started but I am yet to finished as I struggled with it. If you have read it then please let me know what you think? Should I carry on with it?  I would absolutely love it of you would leave a comment recommending any you have read recently that I can add to my list to read!

The first one up is The Girlfriend by Michelle Frances. This is the one I put on the back burner because I struggled with it. I just found it a bit slow and I had a pile of other books staring at me so decided to put it to one side. Did I do the right thing? Have you read it? Should I give it another go? It ticks all the boxes in the bio, but I just struggled to get through the first few chapters!

This book is a gripping and chilling debut psychological thriller, based on the fall-out following an unforgiveable lie. It looks at the potentially charged relationship between girlfriend, boyfriend and his mother, which most women can identify with, and locates it in an extreme but believable setting.

Laura has it all. A successful career, a long marriage to a rich husband, and a twenty-three year-old son, Daniel, who is kind, handsome, and talented. Then Daniel meets Cherry. Cherry is young, beautiful and smart but she hasn’t had the same opportunities as Daniel. And she wants Laura’s life.

Cherry comes to the family wide-eyed and wants to be welcomed with open arms, but Laura suspects she’s not all that she seems.

When tragedy strikes, an unforgiveable lie is told. It is an act of desperation, but the fall-out will change their lives forever.

Next up is Friend Request by Laura Marshall. I loved this book and would highly recommend it. It grabbed my attention whilst I was hunting for something on Amazon and it just happened to find its way into my basket. It was dubbed “the most addictive psychological thriller you will read this year” so with information I decoded I best read it.

Maria wants to be friends. But Maria is dead . . . isn’t she? When Louise Williams receives a message from someone left long in the past, her heart nearly stops. Maria Weston wants to be friends on Facebook.

Maria Weston has been missing for over twenty-five years. She was last seen the night of a school leavers’ party, and the world believes her to be dead. Particularly Louise, who has lived her adult life with a terrible secret.

As Maria’s messages start to escalate, Louise forces herself to reconnect with the old friends she once tried so hard to impress. Trying to piece together exactly what happened that night, she soon discovers there’s much she didn’t know. The only certainty is that Maria Weston disappeared that night, never to be heard from again – until now.

If you have not read this, then I would stick it on your read list. Its a must!

The last book I have read over the summer is My Sweet Revenge by Jane Fallon. I loved Strictly Between Us so I knew this was going to be another good book by Jane. Infant I have another one  of her novels that is in my pile to read. I was hooked from page one and was desperate to see what and how it was going to pan out. I felt for Paula, I really did. i was totally taken in by her character. This was a really easy read, It didn’t take me long to finish it. Definitely one to read if you have not already.

I want to make my husband fall back in love with me. Let me explain. This isn’t an exercise in 1950s wifeydom. I haven’t been reading articles in old women’s magazines. ‘Twenty ways to keep your man’. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I want him to fall back in love with me so that when I tell him to get the hell out of my life he’ll care. He won’t just think, ‘Oh good’. I want it to hurt.

Paula has had Robert’s back since they got together as drama students. She gave up her dreams so he could make it. Now he’s one of the nation’s most popular actors. And Paula’s just discovered he’s having an affair.

She’s going to remind Robert just what he’s sacrificing and then she’s going to break his heart like he broke hers. It will be her greatest acting role ever. Revenge is sweet, Isn’t it?
