I was approached to do a review for the “new” Aunt Bessie’s Roast Potatoes basted in duck fat. Now I am a BIG fan of homemade spuds, I tend to look at the frozen ones and turn my nose up… but I thought why not give these a go? The husband has been getting in rather late so I thought this would be easy and convenient for me to just pour them out, pop them on a tray and cook them for 30 minutes, only turning once! easy peasy! No peeling the spud (has to be the worst bit for me!) no boiling and no transferring into hot oil! Once out of the oven, they looked like any other roast potato, golden and crispy… Once I cut into one it was light and fluffy and and tasted really good, just like any other roast potato! I half expected them to taste a bit like cardboard but I was pleasantly surprised! I will point out, some of the potatoes were larger than others and tasted as if they were under cooked and needed more time, the smaller potatoes tasted perfectly cooked but the larger ones were hard and slightly tasteless but I think with a little extra time in the oven they would taste just as good as the smaller ones, I will be slipping these into my trolley for “convenience” when I know timing will be tight in the future.
