Every year, roughly the same time of year everyone starts to have that mild panic about school. About preparing for the year ahead. This week I had that mild panic. The sense of bubbling fear that every parent gets. The overwhelming anxiety that in just a few short weeks the new school term will begin.

We stupidly left the school uniform shopping till the very last minute, mainly because of payday and I didn’t want to get it earlier in the holidays incase G had a growth spurt. She tends to grow at the rate of knots and even though she is seven, she is already in size ten/eleven clothing. This upsets me greatly. She isn’t overly big, just very tall for her age.

We decided to whack it all out in one day. G is heading into Juniors this year {sobs} and needed more bits than usual. A back pack {instead of a book bag} and pencil case to name a few. She was overly excited about choosing her pens and rubbers. I remember when I was younger, going to WH Smiths and choosing all new stationary for the new school year. I used to get so excited about buying all the random crap you would put in the pencil tin.

I would normally spend a complete and utter fortune on school uniform but this year decided to budget and I couldn’t believe how much we saved. We cut down dramatically and thankfully managed to get all the basics. We had to head to the school shop to buy the embroidered clothing {which let me tell you cost us more than all the other bits put together!} I am so tempted to buy a second hand embroider machine and do it myself next year! Would save so much.

School shoes are my worst buy ever. We can never get shoes in stock and always have to purchase online, BUT this year we managed to get both G and H some new school shoes which was a relief as I was a bit worried that they would not arrive on time for the new school year! G is always a nightmare with shoes and this year I gave in and bought her the ones she wanted. Personally I prefer Kickers or Dr Martens as school shoes as they are more robust and last throughout the year but she saw some pretty Clarkes shoes which she really liked and I relented. I can see me buying her new shoes mid year! H didn’t really have a choice and I bought him the same shoes he had last year. Always a winner.

I have already managed to label and hang it all up ready for the new year. I am currently feeling rather smug its all done, even if we did leave it a little late! I am still feeling slightly overwhelmed that G is heading into year 3 and H is going into year 1. Its shocking how quickly time passes.

So my school preparations are complete so I can now enjoy the final week stress free, and making the most of the time with G and H before reality hits us once again..

    Ah I remember so clearly picking all my stationary for school in September before the term starts. It used to be so exciting! You’re right about buying a second hand embroider machine and doing it yourself though – I think I’ll end up wanting to do the same! xx

      It costs so much doesn’t it to get it all embroidered. The school shops must make a fortune out of us mums {and dads!}

    That reminds me I really need to order name tags! Apart from that I have everything else sorted, despite a mild panic at trying to find age 4-5 grey school shorts. Sold out everywhere in M&S but luckily a friend had bought some for her little boy but they were to small so we are having them. I think I’m going to cry when I see O in the full outfit for the first time. I’m so not ready! xx

    Oh that’s very organised – I can’t believe the summer holidays are nearly over, they’ve been so much fun and I’m definitely not ready yet. It’s all the funny little things that you forget like name tapes for my middle one who’s starting nursery this year, and we still have to run the gauntlet of school shoes!

    I used to love getting a new pencil case every year for the new school year. And you are more organised than me, I haven’t even ordered the uniform yet! I am so so disorganised! Time does go so quick, I can’t believe Mads has been in school a year already. 🙁 xx
