MY LITTLE GYMNAST | THE ORDINARY MOMENTS

MY LITTLE GYMNAST | THE ORDINARY MOMENTS

Ever since G was able to go to gymnastics club at school she has had this over enthusiastic urge to join a proper club. I have to admit. When it comes to extra curricular activities we just haven’t put our all in to them. G’s school offer free clubs and the only other club G attends is swimming which we pay for. Its expensive but worth it as I think its really an important lesson they should learn. G struggled last term, not physically, just mentally. She had a little mishap one week and it knocked her confidence and it never really came back. She would work herself up each week and would be in a complete state by the next lesson.Β I agreed that if she tried for one more term {purely because I have paid for it} I would cancel swimming and try and get her into a gymnastic club.

Since the olympics G has thrown her all into it and she will spend hours and hours making up her own floor routines and then showing them to me, H or her dad. She is constantly doing handstands, forward rolls, cartwheels, the crab {if thats what you even call it!} and finally the splits. What surprises me even more is she has learnt it all herself and taught herself to do all the moves.

From the moment she wakes she is figuring out new moves. She is jumping from one spot to the other, leaping and gliding through the air. I find it fascinating. Whenever we are out, she is always looking for a wall to use as a balance beam, or a wide space she can practice her floor routine and fine tune it. She really does put her all into it.

Gymnastics has made a huge comeback within the last few years and that is thanks to our British Gymnastics team. I love watching them compete. I was just never really into it when I was younger, I couldn’t and still can’t do a cartwheel, G has to tell me how to do them, which is something coming from a 7 year old! Our local gymnastics club is the South Essex Club which is where Max Whitlock actually trains. Its so frustrating as it currently has an 18 month waiting list which G doesn’t really understand. She isn’t one for waiting! I want her to get into it properly as she absolutely loves it and at the moment its the only thing that she is really passionate about. I am now in the search for another club as South Essex is just far to popular and G will just not wait!

For now though, My Little Gymnast will have to make do in the lounge or in those open spaces to perfect her routine.

I am linking up with the lovely Katie at Mummy Daddy Me for her wonderful linky The Ordinary Moments

    • I was actually surprised at the fact they were free too! Whoever I talk to about after school clubs always say about the cost! Im so glad there isn’t any as your right, they would cost a fortune!

  • Oh bless her, sounds like she is doing really well with her gymnastics. Bizarrely our local gym is where Louis Smith trains, we see him all the time when we go to toddler gym there. He is really down to earth. Ours has a massive waiting list too and Mads also really wants to do it.xx
