Saying Goodbye To The Nappies… {Beware – mention of poo..}

I am actually dreading potty training this time round. Potty training a boy seems so different from training a girl! Rather alien like!

The boy costs me a fortune in nappies, he seems to poo a lot. He can poop up to 6 times a day, which is on a different scale to his sister who can go 5 days without even attempting to go! (believe me this is stressful, but there are underlying issues we are dealing with) So with Thor pooping for England every day, you can imagine how many nappies I get through!

With Moo starting school in less than 3 weeks we thought it was ideal to start training him. He has already started showing signs of wanting to learn. He has produced several wee’s after bath-time and sometimes mid afternoon on the toilet already which he has asked to use! I am immensely proud of him already.

This weekend we prepared ourselves and bought some “big boy pants” He loves his spiderman pyjamas so we bought him some spiderman and iron man pants, he immediately wanted them on, striping off when we got back home. We did have our first accident seconds later but thats what training is all about! I put the nappy back on though and will persist with him when he tells me and once Moo is at school I will be able to fully concentrate  on him and training.

Any tips on potty training boys? I am not afraid to say I am a little scared about what I am letting myself in for!

    I have two boys who are now 8 and 6. For me, training them to pee standing up from the beginning worked best. I had some friends that had taught their boys to pee sitting down first, and then had to go through it all over again to learn to pee standing up! Eliminate that extra step! Good luck!

    Good luck Anna-Marie! I don’t know about potty training boys but I know they said that girls are a lot easier. Mads has been trained during the day for a fair few months now, it is just the nights we need to sort. One of my friends is a health visitor and she said it needs to ‘click’ more with boys so not to try them until they get the concept. x

      Thanks Katie, Moo was pretty good with it all, within the first week was dry and then out of nappies of a night within two weeks of being trained, we still have a slight issue with her but thats an ongoing doctors problem but we are getting there!

      Thor is showing signs, and I think its because he see’s Moo using the toilet and he has been going in there and asking so its all heading in the right direction. If it doesn’t work out I can always try again in a few months!

    Get a potty with high sides and make sure the winkle is always tucked in!

      Haha! Yes! Won’t want any spillages! I actually think we will miss the potty stage, he has been going straight to the toilet when he has been asking. We have one that I can leave out in case he does decide to use it 🙂
