The Granny Square Blanket {Half Way Mark!}

In April I took myself of to a crochet beginners class. a few months previously I had won a competition on another blog and won a cuddle cowl and some yarn and hooks. I had no idea what to do with them! Other than wear the cuddle cowl. I had heard so much about crochet, once you start its really easy and its like driving. So with this win, I thought I would give it a go.

I tried teaching myself, failed miserably, so took myself of to a class. I left with a skip in my step and pleased as punch I managed to actually make something! I returned for another 2 lessons and left the 3rd class knowing what my first project was going to be.

I started with speed and crocheted my way through squares, happily before the TV at night-time. I then became ill and it all stopped. I didn’t pick the hooks up for a long time. It became a mass a wool in the pouf. I then picked the hooks up and made some changes to the squares, the 15 I had already made I was not overly happy with so I unpicked the last round of each and every one, which was just a single stitch to finish the square off. I then went back and did a double crochet stitch and they do look much better and it gave me the push to carry on with it.

Summer soon came and I got the crochet buzz and I sat out in the sun whilst the kids played in the pool. I then had a collection of 30 squares before my eyes. It brings us up to the current day!

Last night I stitched and tied of what I have already. I am mighty proud of ones self! I am now pushing my self to finish this blanket. I love what I have already and cannot wait for the finished product. I didn’t expect it to take this long! I thought it would take a few weeks! maybe a month! So unrealistic of me! I still have a way to go, I want a big blanket, so I basically need the same size again! but for now I have a lap blanket and every night I will be crocheting and every spare minute I have to complete it I will be using! Watch this space for an update!

Its not perfect, I see mistakes, and I am sure others will, but Its my first attempt at anything! and its practice, and its for me, no one else, me. I can’t wait till winter!
