Piñata Birthday Cake | Recipe

I decided to make Moo a Piñata Birthday cake this year. I had been scouring Pinterest in the hope to find an easy recipe and I managed to find the perfect cake! It was so easy to make and I am so pleased with the result.

Ingrediants

  • 125g caster sugar
  • 125g self raising flour
  • 125g Butter {I use margarine}
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 level tsp of baking powder
  • Small drop of almond essence
  • Butter Cream {I used the cheat and bought ready made as I am useless at buttercream}
  • Hundreds of Thousands {3 pots}
  • Pink Smarties {2 christmas  tubes}
  • Chocolate Buttons {2 christmas tubes}

I made up 4 mixtures {resulting in using 500g of each ingredient, 8 eggs and four teaspoons of baking powder} so all my cakes were roughly the same size. I find it easier doing separate mixtures rather than splitting it.

Method

  1. Beat together the butter and sugar till light and fluffy, add the flour, eggs, baking powder and almond essence
  2. Cook in a preheated oven for 25 minutes {I did two cooks, I only had two tins}
  3. Once all the cakes have cooled, cut out a round circle from each cake, leaving one aside for the lid. {I used a glass to cut out the hole
  4. Stack each cake up, using buttercream as a filing
  5. Fill in the holes with desired sweets, I chose pink smarties and chocolate buttons..
  6. place the last layer on and use the butter cream to cover the cake
  7. Sprinkle over the hundreds and Thousands. {I found this rather tricky and rather messy, but it was worth the tantrum I threw over it}
  8. Chill in the fridge

The comments I got from Moo on her birthday just proved I made the right decision in making this cake “WOW.. Its the best cake ever mum…” I made Moo cut the cake too {with a little help from daddy} so she could see the sweeties fall out, she was even more impressed! Definitely a thumbs up birthday cake!
